An important part of any family photoshoot is the location. And here in Perth we are blessed with many beautiful settings. Here are a couple of my favourite places to photograph families.
It’s located in the Perth southern suburb of Roleystone in the sheltered valley of the Darling Ranges. With its 59 hectares of native bush land and 14 hectares of developed gardens, there are so many great places to shoot that we couldn’t get to them all in just one session. During the annual Tulip Festival, Araluen is filled with people and tourists who come out to see the 125,000 tulips. Most other times of the year, it’s a quiet place. Which is just perfect for your family photos.
Perth has some of the best beaches in the world. And there is nothing better than walking barefoot in the cool sand in the evening of a hot summers day. Or even if you are after that ‘messy hair don’t care’ vibe, let’s go there in winter – get out your coat, get out your scarf and get those stormy skies. From City Beach to Rockingham, beach portraits look amazing.
Every year I drive up to Mundaring and photograph some families on their beautiful rural bush properties (one even has its own lake). But if you live in suburbia like me, don’t worry – Lesmurdie has some of the most gorgeous bush settings in Perth. The ever popular Lesmurdie Falls has amazing views over Perth, but if you would like something quieter, I have a super-secret location that I can also take you to.
Wireless Hill is not only a great location for some family photos, but a great opportunity to teach the kids some Perth history. Surrounded by bush, the buildings and the old radio mast anchors give us various different backgrounds and its perfect for letting the kids run around.
After something a little different. Lets go to the Pine Trees. In another super-secret location (ok, well this one isn’t so super-secret) in Murdoch, we have this little park full of these amazing trees. And if the sun is shining and we get the timing right, the sunlight streaming through the trees adds that WOW factor to you already amazing photos.
